<exDesc>Offshore Alabama in federal and state waters between Dauphin Island and Perdido Pass.</exDesc>
</dataExt>
<idPurp>Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure LLC (APTIM) was contracted by the Geological Survey of Alabama (GSA) to conduct a geophysical and geotechnical investigation for the identification and delineation of sand resources between Dauphin Island and Perdido Pass.These are the as run core sites for for APTIM's geophysical and geologic reconnaissance sand search for the Geological Survey of Alabama. These data were collected between September 14 and October 1, 2024. These data are presented in Alabama State Plane Coordinate System, West Zone, North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) projection. </idPurp>
<idAbs>

The Geological Survey of Alabama contracted the APTIM Team to conduct a reconnaissance geophysical and geological survey. This project is funded by the Resources and Ecosystem Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economics (RESTORE) of the Gulf Coast States Act of 2012 under the “State Expenditure Plan #5: Characterization and Delineation of Significant Sand Resource Areas Essential for Beach Restoration”. Alabama offshore sand reserves are essential to the maintenance of amenity beaches, to the intertidal and beach ecosystem functions, and to the services beaches provide. The purpose of this project is to locate and identify beach compatible sands which can aid in future beach restoration projects for the State of Alabama by initiating a bathymetric and sand sediment sampling and analysis program. This project collected 123 nm (228 km) of high-resolution geophysical data aboard Florida State University’s (FSU) R/V Apalachee. These data were collected between January 13 and January 19, 2024. To properly address GSA’s needs as well as state and local agencies, APTIM first conducted a detailed desktop study in the area. The desktop study is part of Phase 1 and is intended to identify historical datasets and reports within the area of interest that help to clarify the geological framework and potential resources within the area. Once the results of the desktop study were reviewed and study areas and plans established, APTIM proceeded to Phases 1 and 2, which included geophysical and geological data collection. Geotechnical data was collected between September 14 and October 1, 2024.

</idAbs>

<dataLineage>
<statement>APTIM utilized the company owned and operated VC-700 vibracore system, configured to collect undisturbed vibracores up to 20 ft (6 m) in length. The VC-700 is a single, electric vibracoring system operational to depths of 3280 ft (1000 m). This electric vibracore system allows for the successful collection of vibracores in relatively deep-water depths. The self-contained, free-standing electrically operated vibracore unit contains a VC-700 vibrator head (4.4 kilowatt) configured to 220 VAC 3-phase power, allowing for the user to operate the vibracore at fluctuating vibration frequencies to penetrate through otherwise unyielding strata. A 210 m long 4-core Hydrofirm sea cable provided power to the drive unit of the vibracore from the surface control system, located on the vessel. The frame of the vibracore system has legs which can easily be deployed and retracted to allow the system to be laid down on a vessel’s deck. This allows for easy access to insert new liners and also remove core samples from the system. The vessel was live boating at all geologic sample locations to further the vessel’s stability for vibracore operations. The GSA has contracted APTIM to perform a sand search along the Alabama coast between Dauphin Island and Perdido Pass. Proposed vibracores were generated based on the data available at the time of planning. Vibracores were proposed based on the historic data identified and made available during the desktop study investigation as well as interpreatations from the seismic data collected during the geophysical survey. Vibracore locations were picked by APTIM based on the seismic singals identified in the collected data that are indicative of sand. Geotechnical data was collected between September 14 and October 1, 2024.</statement>
